Despite advanced science and technology and the good intentions of many male and female leaders, today’s corporate world is still far from gender equality. We are introducing the first research focusing on executive and decision making bodies of the 600 companies We have completed the EWoB Gender Diversity Index 2019. Despite encouraging progress in recent years, the under-representation of women on corporate boards and in management positions remains a challenge for EU member states. Together with KANTAR we had a closer look at all 600 companies listed in the STOXX Euro 600 in 17 European countries. The average Gender Diversity Index of companies analysed is 0.53, with 1 being the value representing perfect gender equality. Only 30 companies (5%) are close to having gender-balanced leadership with a GDI value that is 0.8 or more. On the other hand, 53 companies in the dataset (9%) have strongly male-dominated boards with a GDI of 0.3 or less.
