Acidizing is used to either stimulate a well to improve flow or to remove damage. Stimulation by acidizing is an old production enhancement technique dating as far back as the nineteenth century [ 2 ] when Herman Frasch of Standard Oil patented the use of hydrochloric acid (HCl) to stimulate carbonate formations. The purpose of matrix or fracture acidizing is to restore or improve an oil or gas well’s productivity by dissolving material in the productive formation that is restricting flow, or to dissolve formation rock itself to enhance existing, or to create new flow paths to the wellbore.
